Thwaite is surrounded by the most marvellous upland scenery that has made Swaledale internationally famous.  A narrow valley with steep sided slopes leading to high moorland.  With many mountain streams tumbling over waterfalls to admire.

Miles and miles of stone walls with barns dotted here, there, and everywhere.  Whilst many visitors will be content just to relax, others may want to walk on the many footpaths that are here. 

The Pennine Way passes through Thwaite, and the section from here to Keld over Kisdon Hill, is renowned for the unforgettable views.

Thwaite has a licensed restaurant, and Muker, just a mile away, has a pub, village store, tearoom, and also the well known Swaledale Woollens and Craft Shop.  By driving across the stunning, desolate Buttertubs Pass you can reach the town and tourist centre of Hawes in Upper Wensleydale, where there is a range of shops, services, eating places and visitor attractions on offer.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS 

& INFORMATION

Highest pub in England, the Tan Hill Inn only 6 miles, a must for the traditional beer drinker!!. If you are staying in the Dales why not visit  Hazel Brow Farm at Low Row, which is only 5 miles from us, this is a working farm which has been opened to the public.

Further down the Dale is Reeth this is the largest village in Swaledale, this has to offer Tearooms, Pubs, Shops and a Museum.

Richmond, famous for the castle. A Market Town, here you will find an abundance of shops and the Market which is held on Saturday. The Georgian Theatre is a must. If you are of the sporty type there is the leisure centre, which includes indoor swimming pool.

Public transport serves the Dale with services to Richmond, Leyburn, and Hawes.

If you like travelling by car then you should visit Askrigg, famous for the Filming of "All Creatures Great and Small", Skeldale House. Around Swaledale are many more locations for the series, or if you are in blockbusters visit Hardraw Scar 5 miles away for one of the settings of Robin of Sherwood (Kevin Costner).

Also you might liketo visit Lightwater Valley Amusement Park, or Beamish Open Air Museum, The Lakes a short drive away, all make ideal day trips.
